MaryJo’s Apple Squares
by Chef Paulette
Ingredients
3 sheets of prepared pie crust
1/2 jar of butterscotch filling
1/4 tsp nutmeg
3-5 cups canned or fresh sliced apples (3 20 oz. cans, unsweetened sliced apples)
1 Tablespoon flour
1/4 cup light or dark brown sugar packed
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup applesauce
1/4 cup butter cup in cubes
Method
Preheat oven at 475 degrees. Place one prepared pie crust at the bottom of a 13X9X3 pan. Mix all ingredients together. Add filling to crust. Then dot filling with butter. Place second crust on top and seal edges. Cut a few tiny slits in top crust for the air to escape. Bake pan at 475 for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking for 30 minutes or until top is golden brown.
Glaze
Ingredients
2 1/2 Tablespoons heavy cream
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Method
In a small saucepan, whisk together the cream, sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Put the pan over medium heat and bring to a boil, whisking frequently. Adjust the heat so that the glaze simmers, and cook for 5 more minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour over cooled bars and let cool before cutting.
