Would like to use dried slices of star fruit as ornaments on a necklace. How may I dehydrate and preserve star fruit slices for this purpose?
Andy,
I don’t know how suitable this is for jewelery (it will probably be subject to mold), but here’s how to dry the fruit.
Dissolve 5, 1-gram vitamin C tablets in 1 quart of water and dip sliced fruit in them for five minutes.
Place fruit directly on racks or first spread 100 percent cotton sheet or cheesecloth over oven racks.
Preheat oven to 145 degrees, propping door open with wooden spoon to allow steam to escape.
Allow 4 to 12 hours to dry the fruit.
Food should be dry but pliable when cool. Test a few pieces to see if the batch is ready
