I baked homemade yeast rolls - the texture was good but they were too sweet. I used sweet cream butter to grease the pan and substituted a bit of buttermilk in the recipe. Can I reduce the sugar in the recipe? 1/2 cup sugar to 6 cups of all purpose flour. ?

Hi Judi,
You can reduce the amount of sugar in your recipe. This change will have a slight effect on texture (sugar makes the bread more delicate. Also, give your bread some more time to rise. If you reduce the sugar to 1/4 cup - your rolls will still be good. The sweet cream butter and buttermilk did not affect the sweetness of your recipe - it was just the sugar.
What can be good substitutes for the following?
1. Cognac-
2. Brown Gray Mix-
Thanks Much. I am making Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy.
I will look forward to your response. T/Y.
